Local Myrtle Beach group quickly climbing the Jam Band Ladder. Tanglespeak is a collection of musicians from different areas of the country and different musical backgrounds. The Ridout Bros. (Drew and Pearce) are from the Myrtle Beach area and have been paying music together their whole lives. In the band they are the lead vocalists and Rhythm Guitarists. They met up with Mason Dunn in California back in the late 80’s and began playing music with him never knowing their paths would cross again some 20 years later. Upon a chance encounter with Mason in Philladelphia, PA last year, Drew and Pearce invited him to the beach to try something new and see what happened. Mason is now the lead guitarist and background vocalist for the band and blends his guitar genius with a very textured and solid style flawlessly with Drew and Pearce. They then found bassist Derek Armato after playing as a 3 piece acoustic act for almost a year. Derek is a genius on the fretboard and his bass stylings will at once bring up thoughts of Phil Lesh or Roger Waters. After a few drummers that didn’t work out for one reason or another they happened to meet Erin Anthony, who comes from a harder edge style of play but when given the oppurtunity to play in a jam band in freeform style he was at first hesitant, but after a few practices and being thrown in front of the crowd (to the wolves) he has brought a bit of a harder edge to Tanglespeak and a complete sound that we had been looking for in a drummer since the inception of the band. Now, with the band in full speed, they are starting to make a name for themselves. Headlining their own shows in NMB, Florence, SC, Wilmington, NC and spreading further everyday people are starting to take notice! If you are interested in a fresh take on an old sound then you must see Tanglespeak and let the music do the talking.
